The 180 degree rule is a term in film making which refers to the spacial awareness of characters on the screen. The way it works is there is an imaginary line, known as the axis, which connects the characters, the rule is that the camera must remain on one side of the axis. If the camera crosses the axis, the characters will seem to completely change positions.
Shot Reverse Shot:

Shot reverse shot is often used in filming to show when a character is looking at another as they converse, even though one is often off screen. The camera views one character and then the other from different angles of a scene so they appear to be facing each other.
Match-on-Action:

Match on Action is when the same action is seen from one angle, then the camera angle switches whist the same action continues from where it left off in the last shot, this gives the effect of a seamless action from two view points.
